1st - 2nd Exploratory

Description: This will be a hands on class full of creativity, imagination and wonder. How does sound travel through string? Do cookies float or sink... and why? Magnetism or gravity? These are few examples of what students will get to explore as a class. Each lesson will involve a hands on experiment, activity or craft. This class will also have special visitors once a month ( trained parakeets) for an up close look into the world of feeding, caring and training animlas which each child will get to participate in. In addition to having fun and doing experiments we will also have a Show and Tell once a month. This will give the students opportunities to share with their peers something of importance to them.

Melissa Mathes
LPN~ Pediatric Nurse, CPR certified

Melissa graduated from St. Mary's School of Practical Nursing in 1999. She has worked in the pediatric nursing population for more than 20 years specializing in children with disabilities as well as acute care. She works at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU and has been a homeschooling mom of 3 since 2007. She has a 17,15 and 13 year old who have been homeschooled since the beginning. Melissa, alongside her husband Shawn, has a love for learning different types of self defense and holds a degree in both Taekwondo and Krav Maga. She has taught at two different co-ops in the Chesterfield area and has come to love teaching and has a heart for children of all ages.
