American Literature with Composition

Description: Serving as the second step of a college prep English track, this course is an overview of some of the great works in American Literature. Students will be studying a variety of genres including poems, short fiction and novels. Academic writing will focus specifically on literary devices taken from the reading assignments.

Pre-Requisites: Because we want our students to have an experience that allows for their writing skills to be taken to the next level, a writing sample is required for placement into any high school level English course. If you are interested in your student enrolling in this course and your student is currently enrolled at Bridge Academy, they may see Alicia Collins to complete and submit their writing sample during Bridge Academy regular hours at their convenience. If you wish your student to take this course but they are not enrolled at Bridge Academy, please contact Alicia Collins at bridgeacademy@comcast.net to set up an appointment to have your student complete and submit their writing sample. 


Copy/Supply fee: $35.00 (check written Jackie Fowler due at Orientation or the first day of class)


Annual tuition: $410.00 ($41.00/month for 10 months, August – May or $46/month if prorated or on a 9 month payment plan)

Jackie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in English and Radio, TV and Motion Pictures. After graduation, she worked as a writer for the 5:00 and 10:00 newscast at WRAL - TV in Raleigh, NC. She decided to leave her job at the TV station to pursue her desire to teach and became certified in English Education. She has taught middle and high school English =, honors English, Political Economic and Legal Systems, music and drama while in the classroom. She holds a Master's degree in Library Science and was school librarian before leaving to homeschool her first child. Her Husband is a military chaplain and they have fie children. She loves spending time with her family and is thankful the Lord used the army to bring her to the area.
