Basics in Literature & Composition

Description: 

This high school level course is designed for the student who needs reinforcement in the essential components of mechanics, literary analysis, and evidence-based writing. The goal of the class is to guide the student through the reading selections in order to discuss and effectively analyze the structure, elements, and meaning of literature. Most writing assignments will be based on the required reading of novels, short stories, and poetry. Academically strong 8th grade students may also join this class.

Pre-Requisites: Because we want our students to have an experience that allows for their writing skills to be taken to the next level, a writing sample is required for placement into any high school level English course. For students currently enrolled at Bridge Academy, see Alicia Collins to complete and submit a writing sample during Bridge Academy school hours. If you would like your student to take this course but they are not enrolled at Bridge Academy, please contact Alicia Collins at bridgeacademy@comcast.net to set up an appointment for completing and submitting a writing sample.

Copy/Supply fee: $35.00 (check written to Karyn Sisson due at Orientation or first day of class) 


Annual tuition: $400.00 ($40.00/ month for 10 months, August – May or $45/month if prorated or on a 9 month payment plan)

Karyn Sisson

B.A. in Business Administration 


Karyn graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Business Administration. She has worked in the business world as a manager, a buyer, and a bookkeeper. In addition, she has experience in proofreading and editing for a textbook publisher. Karyn and her husband have three children and homeschooled for over twenty years. Her daughter and sons are now homeschool graduates, and by God’s provision, all three received full academic scholarships to college. Karyn has tutored and taught co-op classes in a variety of subjects at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She loves teaching students at Bridge Academy!
