English Through Short Stories
In this class, high school students will examine a wide variety of engaging short stories and the elements that give them literary merit. Students will read, annotate, analyze, interpret, and discuss stories from different time periods and cultures. They will learn to recognize the writing qualities and techniques that make an impact on the reader. Students will complete written compositions on a regular basis with instruction provided. Writing assignments and vocabulary work will be tied to the reading. A poetry unit is also included near the end of the course.

Required Texts: Impact: Fifty Short Short Stories (To be sure you have the correct edition, please rent through the Bridge Academy Lending Library.)

An additional booklet of short stories will be provided by the teacher; the cost of the booklet is included in the copy fee for the class.
Copy/Supply fee: $35.00 (paid directly to Karyn Sisson due at Orientation or the first class attended)
Annual tuition: $420.00 ($42.00/month for 10 months, August – May or $48/month if prorated or on a 9 month payment plan)

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Karyn Sisson
B.A. in Business Administration
Karyn graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Business Administration. She has worked in the business world as a manager, a buyer, and a bookkeeper. In addition, she has experience in proofreading and editing for a textbook publisher. Karyn and her husband have three children and homeschooled for over twenty years. Her daughter and sons are now homeschool graduates, and by God’s provision, all three received full academic scholarships to college. Karyn has tutored and taught co-op classes in a variety of subjects at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She loves teaching students at Bridge Academy!
