World Literature with Composition

This class is a college preparatory class focusing on literary works from antiquity to the Modern Age. Students will explore multiple genres from carious global and historical contexts. Works will consist of epic poems, short fiction, novels and plays. Writing for class will include journal response, class discussion material and literary theories and critiques of works studied in class.

Pre-Requisites: Because we want our students to have an experience that allows for their writing skills to be taken to the next level, a writing sample using writing prompts provided by Bridge Academy is required from any student who has not taken an English class with us in the previous year and who would like to enroll in a high school level English course. If you are interested in your student enrolling in this course and your student is currently enrolled in an English course at Bridge Academy, their current English instructor or Alicia Collins can help determine the next best English course for them. If you wish your student to take this course but they are not enrolled at Bridge, please contact Alicia Collins at bridgeacademy@comcast.net or Karyn Sisson at kgs429@gmail.com to set up an appointment to have your student complete and submit their writing sample.
Copy/Supply fee: $35.00 (paid directly to Mercy Granell at Orientation or on the first day of class attended)
Annual tuition: $420.00 ($42.00/month for 10 months, August – May or $47/month if prorated or on a 9 month payment plan)

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Mercy Granell

B.A. International Affairs

Mercy attended the University of Mary Washington where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Affairs, and attended the College of Education for History and Social Studies. After teaching in Chesterfield County for three years, she transitioned into full-time ministry at her Church where she was the Kids Director for six years. During her time in ministry, she oversaw curriculum, family resources, and events for kids ages preschool – 5th grade. After having her second child, she transitioned out of ministry to pursue being home with her kids, with the intention to homeschool her children. She still plays an active role at her church as a girl’s high school small group leader.
