Bridge Academy

Psalm 32:8

Description: This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the theory and history of music and most importantly answer WHY God gave us music and how it is applied. We will cover 3 areas of music education:

1) Music Theory - engaging lessons covering the basics of music (notes and staffs, rests and rhythm, time signatures and key signatures, tempo and dynamics, flats and sharps, and more).
2) Music History - we’ll look at the music periods and major composers for each period.
3) Music Matters - we’ll look at the Bible and what the Bible has to say about music and how it is used. We’ll compare that Biblical understanding to how music is used by people in the church and in the world.
The goal is for each student to be able to articulate why music matters to God and to them. Each student will be asked to prepare a piece of music that matters to them to sing or play close to Christmas and close to the end of the year (this is not graded on quality or quantity of talent).
