Science 1-2

Welcome to Reptiles: Then & Now, a science class for 1st and 2nd graders.

The first half of the year will focus on dinosaurs from a Biblical perspective. Gather ‘Round’s Dinosaurs curriculum follows the stories of adventure, discoveries, and key people who helped contribute to the world's understanding of these giants of the animal kingdom. Written in living book style, the lessons begin with daily devotional prompts, and each week contains a section about apologetics (specifically, how we know that the Bible is true). There will be a focus on research steps, tools, and skills, including table of contents, Dewey Decimal system, keywords, reliable information, opinions, and more.

The second half of the year, students learn about the most wild, colorful, and interesting reptiles in the world—accompanied by daily, short geography lessons. Each day of class will introduce at least one new reptile and its appearance, habitat, diet, and life cycle, among other interesting facts. Students will put their new research skills to use while researching an assigned animal (research is provided) or personally chosen animal. (2025-2026)

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Kacy Barbour

Associate of Science–General Education

Kacy grew up in East Tennessee, where she casually attended Northeast State Community College. She enjoyed the classes and teachers so much that she just kept going back until they told her she unintentionally had enough credits for a General Studies degree in 2021. Kacy and Wes met in September 2011 and got married 9 months later in June 2012. Their journey has taken them to North Carolina and several areas in Virginia, but they know the Lord called them to plant roots here in Chesterfield. Kacy and Wes have four children: Noah, Braylan, Coralynn, and Koda. They have thoroughly enjoyed their time at Bridge, watching their children grow and thrive in this environment, and are looking forward to getting to know the Bridge community better while serving here. Kacy serves on the Women’s Ministry Team and co-hosts a Christian Fiction Book Club at Parkway Baptist Church. She enjoys a good book, facilitating service projects, and planning fellowship events alongside her Sisters in Christ.
