Teachers: Chris Palmer (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Description: What if Martin Luther King Jr. had climbed to the podium on August 28th, 1963 to deliver a speech that could change the course of history, and he had no clue how to motivate his listeners? Could Ronald Reagan have aided in the downfall of communism if he never called out, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall." Public speaking is more an of art than a science, and it is a vital skill for success in most professions. It begins with an outline of thoughts and is developed through careful planning and writing. It's completion, the oral presentation, is only achieved once the speaker's story has been planned, written, and delivered. This course will provide the opportunity for students to learn the major speech types: informative, persuasive, impromptu, extemporaneous, and debate, but deliver each of these with a specific form in mind: storytelling - the most powerful and effective public speech.
