
Baking
Description: This new course is designed to educate students in the art of Baking and Pastry. Students will learn the basics of mixing, shaping and baking for several baked goods including quick breads, cakes, pastry doughs, mousses, sauces, glazes, cookies, candies and confections. Plated desserts, international baked foods, chocolate work and decorated cakes are highlighted. During the Christmas season we will make sweets for local first responders.
**This class is not suitable for students with food allergies!**
Students: 5 minimum-11 maximum
REQUIREMENTS
Text: None (in lieu of a book, the supply fee will cover the cost of weekly readers that will be used in class and sent home with each student)
Copy/Supply Fee: $10 (given to Mercy Granell at Orientation or the first class)
Annual tuition: $330.00 ($33/month for 10 months, August May, or $38/month if prorated or on a 9-month payment plan)

A.A. in Psychology and Culinary Arts
Lynn grew up in Pennsylvania as a PK (preacher's kid) until after graduation when she joined the Army. She has lived in Virginia since 1997 but still claims her Yankee roots. Lynn has an AA degree in Psychology from Allegany College in Cumberland, MD then followed her true passion by earning a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales University, Norfolk VA campus class of 2003. Lynn has worked in the food world as a barista, sweets baker, fine dining, B&B breakfast chef, prepared food production and instructor for SCCA co-op & Edible Education. I love to share food knowledge with the "1 no-thank you bite" rule to expand the tasting palate. My husband Phil & I have 2 sons Caleb & Eli who are both students at Bridge Academy.
Courses Offered: Fun with Food (2nd-3rd), Fun with Food (4th-6th), Introduction to Baking (7th-12th), Advanced Baking, Culinary Arts (HS) and Culinary Arts (middle school) and Mom's Make-Ahead Meals (moms only)
