Lit Society (7th-9th)
Finding unlikely and unique friendships on the streets of Chicago, exploring newfound magic, riding a horse through the dark night, hiding on a streetcar to escape the Germans, caring about someone in the enemy army, and witnessing chickens causing chaos during a Living Nativity in Italy--these are just some of the fascinating adventures that await students in the Lit(erature) Society.
The Lit Society, designed for students in grades 7 through 9, introduces a variety of engaging novels. Some selections offer fun and excitement, while others provide significant insights —but all will take you to another time or place! Through these stories, students will embark on journeys that spark imagination and curiosity.
Through reading and thoughtful discussion, we’ll explore stories from a Christian perspective, asking big questions about character, choices, truth, redemption, and hope. Students will learn key literary elements such as plot, theme, setting, conflict, symbolism, figurative language, and character development, while practicing respectful discussion and critical thinking.
The Lit(erature) Society invites students to enjoy great stories, grow in discernment, and discover meaningful connections between faith and literature. By reading and discussing together, students will develop skills that help them appreciate the richness of stories and the ways in which faith can shape understanding and interpretation. (2026-2027)

ABOUT TEACHER
Kacy Barbour
Associate of Science–General Education
Kacy grew up in East Tennessee, where she casually attended Northeast State Community College. She enjoyed the classes and teachers so much that she just kept going back until they told her she unintentionally had enough credits for a General Studies degree in 2021. Kacy and Wes met in September 2011 and got married 9 months later in June 2012. Their journey has taken them to North Carolina and several areas in Virginia, but they know the Lord called them to plant roots here in Chesterfield. Kacy and Wes have four children: Noah, Braylan, Coralynn, and Koda. They have thoroughly enjoyed their time at Bridge, watching their children grow and thrive in this environment, and are looking forward to getting to know the Bridge community better while serving here. Kacy serves on the Women’s Ministry Team and co-hosts a Christian Fiction Book Club at Parkway Baptist Church. She enjoys a good book, facilitating service projects, and planning fellowship events alongside her Sisters in Christ.
