Introduction to Guitar

Age group: 6th grade & up
This guitar class is designed for individuals who are interested in learning how to play the guitar from scratch. The class is perfect for beginners who have no prior experience with the instrument, as well as those who may have played a little bit but want to solidify their foundational skills. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the basic principles of guitar playing, including guitar nomenclature (components of the guitar), how to hold and tune the instrument, how to read guitar tabs and chord charts, and how to play basic chords, strumming techniques, and melodies. The course will also cover basic music theory concepts such as rhythm, timing, and scales, as well as techniques for playing with proper hand placement, posture, and fingerpicking. They will learn how to play basic rhythm guitar in a variety of musical styles, with a focus on the Contemporary Christian Music genre. The guitar instructor will provide personalized attention and guidance to each student, ensuring that they progress at their own pace and receive individual feedback and support. Students will have the opportunity to practice their skills in a supportive and collaborative learning environment, working both individually and in small groups. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in guitar, and will be able to play a variety of basic chords and songs. They will also have a deeper appreciation for the instrument and the role it plays in creating music, as well as a newfound confidence in their own abilities as guitar players.
