Computer Aided Design

Welcome to the exciting world of Computer Aided Design. This course introduces basic concepts integral to modeling in a parametric feature-based CAD system. This course is geared toward students who have had very little to no prior 3D CAD knowledge, and wants to learn how to create parts, assemblies, and drawings in a web based CAD software called Onshape.

The course focuses on:
Developing spatial reasoning skills.
Understanding parametric feature-based design.
The Onshape Interface.
Onshape Documents and tab types.
Basics of part design.
Introduction to assembly design
2D drawing basics.

Students will learn how to export their CAD projects into formats that can be consumed by 3D Printer Slicer Softwares such as PrusaSlicer and Cura for post CAD processing for 3D Printing. Students will learn how to use a 3D Printer as well as basic maintenance and repair of popular desktop 3D Printers such as the Creality Ender 3 Pro and BIQU B1. Students will be able to 3D Print some of their CAD creations. Aside from helping prepare students for careers in Mechanical Engineering, the students will receive an Onshape Completion Certificate after finishing this course.
